Tablets for Architecture

Architecture is a visual field and we try to represent our ideas through sketching and diagramming as much as we can. Tablets are tools that can help us do that.

There are 2 categories of tablets.

Tablets with Screen

the first kind is tablets such as the iPad or other android tablets. These tablets have a screen and often times come with a stylus. The iPad is famous among architects and architecture students.

With the Apple pencil, it is arguably one of the best tablets out there but it comes with some disadvantages. You cannot use softwares that we as architects commonly use such as photoshop and illustrator with the iPad. However, there are great apps such as Procreate which are very powerful and you can use them for digital sketching. It also has amazing pressure sensitivity

Graphic Tablets

These Tablets do not have a screen and cannot be used independently from a computer. There are brands such as Wacom and Huion which make amazing graphic tablets. The main advantages of these tablets are that you can use them in conjunction with really powerful softwares such as Photoshop, Illustrator, and even Lightroom to edit your photos.

You can take your renders of your models or concept models and take them into photoshop and sketch over them. This helps you to develop your ideas. It is also good for your health as it prevents you from developing wrist pains and can draw for longer periods of time unlike working with a mouse.
